In the heart of Abokorkas (a village in Minya, Upper Egypt), lives Jamal, a man in his sixties, burdened with unimaginable hardships. He supports a family of five, including his wife and three children, all afflicted with cerebral atrophy. His youngest daughter, six-year-old Damiana, also suffers from an excessive movement disorder that often requires her to be restrained.

With no health insurance to cover their medical expenses, Jamal's monthly income of barely 2000 Egyptian pounds ($40) falls short of their basic needs. The cost of essential treatment and diapers alone exceeds 2500 pounds monthly, forcing them to rely on financial aid from the church. The absence of a nearby hospital or medical center leaves Jamal in a constant state of sorrow and helplessness as he sits by his children.

Each day, Jamal wakes up to an empty stomach, leaving whatever little food there is for his children. He roams the streets, desperately seeking work to afford the medicine his children need. His wife, in a bid to contribute, borrowed money to buy birds to raise, hoping to generate income. Tragically, the unhealthy environment claimed the lives of the birds, leaving her deeper in debt and despair.

Their eldest son, Ibram, faces relentless bullying and humiliation due to his condition, pushing him into a state of depression and isolation. Irene, the middle daughter, remains confined at home, fearing harm and ridicule.

During our visit to their home, the grim reality was evident. Dilapidated furniture, an unusable kitchen and bathroom, and scattered garbage painted a painful picture. There was no clean water or sufficient chairs, forcing us to stand to avoid making the father sit on the floor. The refrigerator was devoid of any food.

Determined to help, we returned with a large assortment of food items: cooking oil, ghee, meat, poultry, sugar, rice, and pasta. We also provided essential medications for the children's treatment. For the first time, we saw a smile on little Damiana's face. As we departed, her wave and farewell kisses filled our hearts with joy and hope.

Jamal's story is one of resilience and the power of kindness. Despite the overwhelming challenges, his unwavering dedication to his family shines through. As we continue to support families like Jamal's, we can create ripples of positive change, transforming lives one act of kindness at a time. Join us in our mission to bring hope and support to those in need.
